Grandparents benefit from time with grand kids

  • G'parents have higher self-rated health, improved cognitive functioning and increased physical activity.

  • They get to "feel like a kid again!"

  • They pass on family traditions & stories.

  • However, too active of a role in caregiving causes physical and emotional stress

Babies benefit from Grandparents

Positive Grandparent-Child relationship have

Children are happier if grandparents are involved in their upbringing. Child involved with grandparent has less depression as an adult

Breastfeeding tips

  • Breastfeeding mothers want their mothers to "value breastfeeding" and to provide "loving encouragement".

  • Involving grandmothers in conversation with your health provider can increase grandparent support

  • If grandparents help take care of the infant or household tasks, the new mother may have more time, resources, and energy to breastfeed.

Breast milk changes as baby grows. Milk can even change day to day—for example, water content may increase during times of hot weather and baby-sickness to provide extra hydration.
